About the Teacher
Filtod Walker is a mindfulness instructor who is currently joining the community at Sierra Friends Center after a year of service with Americorps. With specialized training for teaching mindfulness in the correctional system, he is a teacher that blends the secular with the more traditionally spiritual subject matter in his mindfulness, communication, and meditation skills classes and retreats. Woolman is cohosting several of Filtod's classes over the coming year as he connects more with the area. Previously from Rogers Park in Chicago, Filtod is a former organizer of a banned book club, an artist salon group, and has volunteered on crisis lines, worked with runaway youth, with the hospice community, and educational nonprofits.

Mindfulness Meditation: Day Retreat
Unplug from technology and spend the day learning more about mindfulness meditation and its practice. In this retreat, you learn the core principles of mindfulness, forgiveness, and loving-kindness meditations. This retreat has both beginner and intermediate experience options. The venue includes 200 acres of hiking trails and meadows to be used during the extended sitting and walking portions of the day. Box Lunch included.

Meditation for Couples: Time Honored Techniques
Basic Mindfulness: A Six-Week Course
In this six-week course, you learn the core components of Mindfulness Meditation merged with fundamental emotional intelligence skills in order to strengthen your practice and gain greater self-awareness. Mindfulness is the core skill that centers around your ability to be fully present in the current moment. Mindfulness increases awareness of your body and emotions, and provides greater insight into how your thoughts and mind work. Merged with Emotional intelligence training, you learn additional skills on how to better identify, work with, and consciously create your emotional responses.

Connecting to Nature: A Camping Retreat
In this camping retreat weekend, participants setup their tent and learn together in a nature setting. We journey together out into the 200 acres of trails onsite to explore nature-based meditations, connect to the night sky, do personal examination work, cook together, and enjoy community for the weekend.

Friday Night Meditation: Six Week Courses
In this class, we focus on meditation's role in stress reduction and creating calm. Using old and new practices, students get a chance to work through four different meditations designed to let the day go and shift their focus more to the positive. By starting off with tea and using candlelight, the class is really about self-care, inner connection, and finding a temporary sanctuary from the outside world.

Mindfulness for Parents & Kids: 4 Week Class (Ages 6-8 & 9-12)
Mindfulness, self-awareness, and emotional intelligence skills have become essentials in navigating the world. Combined, these skills have been shown to help with childhood anxiety, temper tantrums, sleep issues, and handling difficult emotions. Mindfulness, in particular, has also been shown to grow creativity. In this class, you and your child come together to do some fun activities designed to teach mindfulness, self-awareness, and emotional intelligence at their most basic level.

Mindfulness in Love & Communication: A Four Week Course
Love and communication are two of the biggest challenges for a lot of people. Without additional training or even ways of seeing, many people stay stuck – knowing they need to do something different but just not knowing what that is. In this class, we take the time to do a deep dive into who you are, how you are relating, and work on building some fundamental mindfulness skills around love and communication.

Nature-Based Meditation: A Six Week Course
In this class, participants go out into the woods to connect with nature using new and old meditative techniques. We cover basic mindfulness as grounding technique that enables all the other mediations and natural experiences to find their root. Meditations include: Mindfulness, Deep Root, See It/Be It, Core Connection, and more.
